I was just saying in a comment above that I need to worldbuild them in better, I think they're not just performers but also DJs and, like, journalists-- they'd be a really concrete way for geographically-disparate people to maintain an awareness of the wider culture.
I'm still kind of building out how important Ula is-- this was my first inkling that I needed to explore it further, so I've kind of started to contradict myself, but my concept for her has developed that she was of an unfavored family line and deliberately set out to improve her standing by any means available to her as an individual-- and the drovers' regard shows that she has in fact earned a pretty solid standing in the tribe, but i haven't yet made it clear, I don't think, that it's via her accomplishments and not through her bloodline. We're going to explore what status means in this society, a bit, through her.
