I just had a moment where I was in my email inbox and frowning and refreshing the page because not very much happened when I did, and it took me a moment to realize that what was happening was that I was looking for comment notifications, and the reason there were no comment notifications is that I hadn't posted anything that would result in them, so like... duh
Been busy, though--
unicornduke has been visiting and we went to a WNHL game yesterday (Beauts won!) (and we rode the elevator up with these guys and then sat across from them and were entertained for the whole game. for the record, the dudes made those blankets themselves, having asked the fabric store personnel a lot of questions.) and then we went to see a standup comic after that, which I've never done in my life, so, that was cool. (Cameron Esposito, who was very funny, as one expects, with some touching moments of vulnerability ("My whole persona is built on being a happy person and here I am all depressed and bitter!! I bought all these shirts-- I appear before you in purple pineapples-- I can't just sit on this stool and hunch over and mumble." "I'm going to be a gay divorceé! Y'all should have given us our rights earlier, we could have been making this joke all along!" and a hilarious riff on how lesbian divorces are not like straight divorces and it was exhausting to have to coach everyone through this. "Who gets the strap-on? The answer is nobody: that was your dick together. You have to throw it out." And then she went on to describe a game-of-thrones-like chair, of dicks instead of swords, in some garbage dump somewhere. "And everybody wants to sit on it.").
And I just remembered that I ought to have the next bit of the mammoths project story to go up today, so I will try to assemble that if I can. We're meant to spend this morning going and looking at Niagara Falls, but it is so bitter cold and snowy I am having a hard time mustering the enthusiasm.
Oh but yesterday morning Unicornduke taught me to use a drop-spindle, so that was fantastic-- something that's been on the to-do list for over a year now and both my sisters have been like "oh yah one of these days no problem!" for that entire time, so-- ha! I'm gonna have to work on that a lot, but.
I really really really really really really really want to make my own linen. I want to grow it, process it, spin it, and then I want to weave it. (Lest anyone thinks to ask "uh... B... you don't knit, or crochet, why are you so excited to learn to spin? LISTEN I have a PLAN sort of well it's not a PLAN but it's an IDEA and in real life that gets you partial credit at least!)
Anyhow-- I'm going to nip off now to the mammoth mines, but if I don't get the excerpt posted today it'll be tomorrow.
