RIGHT? OK so I’m not imagining it! I have had it in my head all day!!!

So WTF is this talking about? I mean, you can use works that aren’t in the public domain if you license them, so it must have been licensed, somehow? I don’t know! 

It was super-basic, literally elementary-school level, with most of it in unison and it divided in half with an ooh-ooh-ooh harmony part for a little bit. The harness bells part was a little faster and minor-key. 

And it was, 100%, the entire text of Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening. And we performed it for a concert. Circa 1990, is my best guess.

A lot of things like that are a one time license the school pays. My sisters were in band and choir in high school. A lot of their music was traditional stuff bought ages ago.

Well, a lot of their music was stuff the school bought ages ago, the sheet music/ lyric sheets drowned in Katrina, and new copies were donated by various charitable groups.

Oh, this is a reply to an earlier article, where the author of the article had spoken about how this composer had set the poem to music and only afterward had discovered that he didn't have the rights to it so he'd had to rewrite the choral piece before releasing it.
...
but I, and this other Tumblr user, both remember performing a choral piece of that poem.
So, while I'm not doubting the article, I find that I don't understand it, because obviously, obviously, *someone* had the rights to this poem, and made choral pieces out of it, and somehow that doesn't rate mention in the article.
