Well, I’ve seen the new Tumblr TOS. It’s funny, because I don’t think I’ve ever posted much NSFW stuff. I mean, text maybe.
I’m on Pillowfort, but it’s down, so.
Where I really am, and where I’ve lived, and where I’ll be henceforth, is Dreamwidth.
Please, for those of you who never used LJ, don’t be intimidated. It’s easy enough to use. There must be so many tutorials on how to make cute text and such.
It’s just not good for reblogging, which is most of the content I see on here, and honestly, I was starting to get a little tired of it. I now PostBlock every single thing a Big Name Blog I follow posts right off the bat once I’ve read and enjoyed it, because so many of you love to reblog things like… oh, copperbadge’s puns about his cats. I mean, they’re hilarious! But not nine times, especially not with nothing added whatsoever. I hate to unfollow people I interact with, but so many people only ever reblog and never even tag art? It’s hard to curate that kind of relationship.
(In the olden times, before reblogging, what we’d do is that we’d write these journal entries containing a log of things we’d seen and engaged with on the web. A web log, if you will, shortened to “blog”. You’d just link to the OP of all these hilarious things you’d seen, and your readers, if the description appealed to them, would click through. It was amazing how much content you could get that way. Returning to that isn’t perfect, though: sometimes things you linked to would change, once you’d linked to them! So it wasn’t a great idea to exclusively have that kind of content on your blog; I tended to intersperse it with personal reflections.) (I know this sounds wanky but honestly it’s me remembering what-all I used to do with my time. Firstly, I almost never let myself post more than once a day. And secondly, I spent the rest of the time leaving comments. It was weird.)
Oh here’s one huge plus about DW– it emails you when someone leaves a comment, so you know to reply to it. That’s one thing I loathe about Pillowfort, and they’re making no promises to change it. Like… what’s the point of trying to foster conversation if you don’t realize anyone’s talking, and then you come to your dash and there are a bunch of unconnected comments people have left and no way for you to easily see which post they’re replying to? Not great. Also it’s great that posts have “likes” on them so you can “like” someone’s post to support them, but then as the OP you literally don’t ever know whether someone’s Liked a post or not, you have to click through to see how many Likes the post has, and i literally have never figured out how to tell who Liked any of my posts. So literally it’s just a meaningless sticker that changes color and doesn’t tell the OP much at all. I’m not even sure what happens with reblogs, if you like the reblog or it’s just the OP who gets all the likes. It’s confusing, to me, as an Old.
Anyway. Here’s me on Dreamwidth. Please come say hi. If you do, I will KNOW, because it will EMAIL ME your COMMENT so I can REPLY to it.
God, I’m just so fucking cranky to have to do this again. Guess what! Corporations will sell you out, that’s how it goes. Please, come find me, I don’t want to lose all of you.
