The new wiring is getting trenched in conduit out to the greenhouse, and then at the other end of the greenhouse, we’re going to put in another little trench and lay conduit out to a pole, and from that pole, I can use a 25-foot extension cord and have power in the yurt!
We were considering ways to get power across the road to the yurt, and I finally said, “but I don’t need power there during the day…” and if I do, b-i-l pointed out they don’t need to drive down that road all that often, they could just move the extension cord if they happened to go out that way.
So– I’ll have power out to the yurt, before I even have it set up! Very exciting.
All I need is one power strip: a light, a charger for my phone or laptop, rarely both, and a place to plug in a fan in the summer and a tiny electric heater in the winter. I am going to deliberately get an underpowered one so that it is impossible for me to overload the power strip– but it’s a whole 15-amp circuit just to myself, totally separate from the greenhouse, and we’re going to make the outlet ground-fault-interrupt, so if I overload it, I can just go over to the pole and reset it, rather than all the way back to the circuit breaker at the far end of the greenhouse.
(Also if I trip it, it won’t break the greenhouse fan or louvers. And we can switch it off at the breaker in the greenhouse, and still leave the greenhouse power on.)
