She got it! My Army sister got the battalion command position she wanted so badly. Politics did not prevail, and the woman who didn’t want all her battalion commanders to be female was overruled.
Yay!!! (It’s a perfect position for her and a shorter commute.)

This is my older sister, who is a stay at home mom of 3, a Lt Col in the National Guard, and an extremely competent officer.

I am somewhat confused, however, about how she is a "stay at home mom" and also commutes to a job?

National Guard is one weekend a month, two weeks a year, so for most of the time, she's at home with the kids, while her husband works 40 hours a week.
Having her one weekend a month be half an hour away, instead of 2+ hours away, makes that a whole lot more reasonable. And if her two weeks is commutable-to instead of having to go away for the duration, that also makes it a lot easier.

Ahhhh, that makes sense, then. Thanks for clarifying. That would definitely make for an easier away-time!

(You would think, having grown up on military bases for part of my life, I would know things like this...)

Ah, but the National Guard don't live on the military bases! I grew up with a dad in the National Guard and was sort of shocked to reach adulthood and realize how very little I actually knew about the regular Army!
