summer

so friday i went over to unicornduke/M-L’s house to help move furniture. the living room floor was done so the furniture tetris’d into the dining room could finally be moved out into the living room and then real actual living in the house could commence. it wasn’t a ton of hard work; to be fair unicornduke was pretty fatigued from the extremely hard physical labor of replacing the living room subfloor and floor and so was moving much slower than she normally does, and with no stairs to contend with, it was actually fairly easy to move the furniture. so we got the couch and TV set up, set up the new murphy bed for her brother’s impending visit (that had sort of… lit the final fire to get the floor done, to have somewhere to put him), and then moved in like… a china cabinet and the grandfather clock and the various coffee tables and some of the bookshelves and– anyway, the room sort of took shape, and it was really pleasant and exciting and lovely and all. and then we went for tacos, which was fantastic, and then i came to help arrange flowers in the afternoon and that also went really fast. and then my mother took me out to dinner! so that was great.
and then i had been talking to M-L who still has a ton of unpacking to do upstairs, and seemed just… sort of overwhelmed… and i said, why don’t i come over tomorrow and help you with that?
I will admit an ulterior motive: it was 95 on saturday, and her house is air conditioned, and the farm has no ac.
so i did some cooking at the farm in the morning– made a potato salad, mostly, for the evening’s pot luck, then came over to ML’s house, and wound up doing some more furniture moving in the living room, did like…. fifteen minutes of work upstairs, and then rearranged some of the kitchen cabinets, and sat in the really pleasant cool air from the a/c unit, which works better when not packed in among a Lot of Stuff. It was honestly really nice.
I only spent like five hours in the evening out in the heat of the day, and holy shit. it was hot today. it was a lot. there was not a way to be comfortable.
i got out to the cabin at like 9:15 pm, and I picked up a jar of water I’d had sitting on the table, which was now room temp– 95 degrees– and went out on the porch and stripped down and just gave myself a whole like 20-oz shower, which was surpisingly effective. I’m quite comfortable now, lying in bed with a fan blowing straight onto me.
It’s going to be hotter tomorrow– well, today, once I post this in the house wifi. I should’ve found some other task to take me back to M-L’s, LOL. (Your picture was not posted)
