so Farmkid’s bestie’s mom arranges flowers with us. i’ve discussed her here
before, she was the lady who collected the pretty-colored rocks in her bra
to put into her fountain. she’s hilarious and adorable and does what it
takes. anyway.
FK’s Bestie was having a rough time over the summer like
emotional-maturity-wise, there were some tantrums and shit, it was a rough
time. She’s like seven, it’s hard to be seven. Anyway her mom was working
with her on coping skills and practiced a lot of scripts with her. “We’re
just gonna let that go,” she’d say. “We’re gonna work through it and let it
go and get on with our lives.” Lots of reading-up on self-soothing and
moving through upheaval and managing emotions and stuff.
anyway.
FK and Bestie are back to in-person school. So far it’s going okay. More
wearing on the parents than the kids, possibly.
Both girls are also signed up for soccer. It’s a huge pain in the ass for
the moms. It’s wildly disorganized and not beginner-friendly for the
parents, the schedules haven’t been posted, it’s uneven and weird and
frustrating.
Anyway. As one of the Trials, the parking lot is one-way, and when FK’s
Bestie’s Mom was driving to drop FKB off, she met a car coming the wrong
way.
“They’re driving the wrong way,” FKB’sM said, frustrated.
“But,” piped up FKB from the back seat, “we’re just gonna let it go, right
Mom?”
Sweet and chipper and pure as anything, and sure enough, this child was
absolutely not being sarcastic. Just genuine pure truth; you sound upset,
and we’re gonna acknowledge that feeling and then package it up and let it
go, because being mad isn’t going to fix the problem. Right Mom?
“I GUESS,” said FKB’sM.
(And then told us this story as we arranged flowers. “OMG she Mommed you,”
I said. “SHE DID,” FKB’sM lamented.)
