what’s so irksome about post+ is like… no one wanted that feature, but there ARE features that people want and WOULD be worth paying a couple bucks a month for, if tumblr actually understood its own userbase at all

like i very happily paid for livejournal for years because what you got for a couple bucks a month made using the site a better experience for the way users were actually doing livejournal

if tumblr was like, “hey, for $2 bucks a month, you can have messaging on sideblogs, no ads, actual human support staff responses, and the ability to see and/or edit your tags” i would pay them that money

but instead of doing the work to make the site worth paying for, they want the users to do that work for them by creating paid user-made content instead of, you know, improving the user experience of the actual website, while providing exactly the same level of (zero) service

if they create a site with options worth paying for – as in additional ease-of-use stuff, not taking things away from the existing free site! – then people would. it works. it’s a business model that works. but tumblr itself would have to put in the work, and they just don’t want to do that.
