I’m fine, I was not in an accident, no one I know is injured, but tw for
automobile accidents
we were just driving home when the road ahead was full of flashing lights
and seemed closed. With nowhere to turn off, we slowed and joined the line
of cars that was being allowed through slowly one at a time. There were a
lot of emergency vehicles. There’d clearly been some sort of car accident.
A car was off on a side street, askew, but did not look damaged; people
were carefully driving around it. There was an ambulance, its doors open, a
gurney next to it, empty, a cluster of fluorescent-vested people around–
something on the ground?
In the middle of an intersection was a single black high-top man’s sneaker,
and that was when I realized this had clearly been an accident involving a
pedestrian and thus was unlikely to have any kind of good ending.
I don’t have a moral for the story, it was just upsetting and I wanted to
write it down and urge you all to just– be kind and be careful and realize
how fragile it all is. Oh gosh.
