Farmsister is repeatedly benefiting from being roughly the same size as Dad. Yesterday Mom turned up with a green raincoat, newish, in good repair, and handed it to her. “Yours has a hole, doesn’t it?” Mom said, and Farmsister agreed, pulled her leaky yellow jacket down off the hanger, and put the new green one up there.

This morning, on her way out to do animal-feeding chores, Farmsister put the green jacket on, and paused.

“Hey,” she said. “It smells like him.”

I got up and put my face against her shoulder, and yeah. Smelled like he’d worn it over his leather jacket.

(ArmySister got the leather jacket. It’ll fit her, too, but she probably won’t wear it much.)

“You’ll have to buy a leather jacket,” Farmsister said. “Leather jackets mostly smell the same.”

“I’d wanted an excuse to get one,” I said, and she went out onto the porch and dumped out her boots like Dad always did (in his case, checking for scorpions in a habit formed in Army training at Ft. Hood in Texas, but in our case, well, you store your boots out on the porch and crap falls in there, it just makes sense), and set off into the freezing rain with Dad’s raincoat on.

Now I gotta buy a leather jacket. Suggestions for where to get one that’ll fit a distinctly narrow-shouldered feminine figure with a 50″ bust? (Your picture was not posted)

i don’t know why but i’m really amused by the winner of some ‘new kanji’ contest https://sousaku-kanji.com/:

compare with the real kanji

座 (seat/gathering), but the two 人 (person) radicals have been moved from next to each other within the 土 (earth) radical to diagonally from each other, making this “social distance(d seating/gathering)”

This is hilarious, but to further the hilarity, I’d like to point to the fact that half of the “A rank” (runners up) for this contest also are related to 2020 epidemic jokes

First up we have: Compare with 太

The original kanji means “to gain weight”. But it adds the コ “ko” and ロ “ro” katakana symbols at the top to represent the weight you gain while staying home due to the corona virus.

Then we have: Compare with 会

The original kanjij means “meeting”, but the lower radical is changed to look more like a “Z” to represent Zoom meetings. Thus, the new kanji means “web meetings” or “zoom calls”

And of course another social distancing one: Compare with 話

This means “to talk” or “chat”, but it’s changed simply to show the two radicals social distancing from one another as we should also while holding conversations nowadays.

At least we can have some fun language humor despite all of this! (Your picture was not posted)
