That line has totally wormed its way into my mind, I’ve thought about it roughly once a day now I’m back at work
Not to get, like, disproportionately deep on main, but
[the line is the one about how Jaskier’s purpose here is Purely Decorative, which I stole from MM]
it’s actually kind of a soothing thing to think of. MM grew up the Responsible Eldest in her family and for a lot of her childhood her mom was battling a serious illness so she spent a lot of time worrying and making sure her siblings Didn’t Bother Mom etc., and to this day she very easily falls into a self-denying caretaker role in every way– she tends to disappear entirely into raising her kids and it’s distressing and she gives up things of herself that nobody would ever actually ask anyone to give up, and so for her it’s actually an act of defiance to do her hair and put on jewelry and wear a pretty dress every day.
So she’ll occasionally realize she’s not Taking Charge and making everything happen, and one of the ways she’s found to make that into a joke is to laugh and say “ah, obviously I’m just here for decoration”
and it’s a weird little defiant thing, actually.
