I’m so jacked-up about the stupid traffic ticket SNAFU. 

I can’t find any record of when it was. I usually bitch about things on my blog but I don’t think I did, this time, and so I can’t even begin to guess when the date of the actual ticket was, and I can’t find if I even like, snapped a photo of any of the forms, or whatever– it’d help a lot, I think, if I could say, “I called at this date and time and spoke to a woman who didn’t tell me her name but she said thus and such”, because that’s literally all I have– but I don’t even have that.

Ugh it is quarter to midnight, well past my bedtime, and for some reason Dude, who normally is slightly annoying because he sleeps so damn much and is in bed so early, is still sitting up, and when I’m anxious like this, I absolutely cannot settle if he’s doing something weird, and he is, this is literally the very latest he has stayed up in perhaps six months, and it is for no reason, and i asked him to come to bed because I’m so anxious, and he just said “I’m not tired yet :)” and so well I will not be sleeping tonight, I’m only getting more anxious as time passes. 

I don’t know what to do. A friend of dude’s is a lawyer and I’ll have to contact him tomorrow, I really don’t know what else to do or where to begin. I just– I don’t have any records of any of this, because they had me send the form in to them, and then when I called them, it was on the phone, so there’s no record of it on my end! There’s nothing I can do. 

I’m going to have to pay a huge fine because the Town Clerk of C*********e is an incompetent idiot motherfucker.

Last week India passed a blatantly anti-Muslim law that seeks to naturalise millions of immigrants, except if they are Muslims.

In August of this year, India revoked the autonomous status of the Kashmir region, putting a communication blackout on the state. Kashmir has entered the fifth month of no internet and heaviest militarisation of any region in the world.

India is a secular, socialist republic. This bill is anti-constitutional and against the principles on which the country was founded

Naturally, there have been protests across the country. At the forefront of the protests are students from India’s public universities.

Police opened fire on peaceful protestors in Jamia Milia Islamia University in Delhi, and Aligarh Muslim University in Uttar Pradesh.

Ever since then, the ruling fascist Hindu nationalist political party, the BJP, has been doctoring videos and sending fake news all over the internet, discrediting protestors and labelling them as terrorists

India has already seen too much religious violence, please please signal boost this, call your representatives, make them aware, get them to make statements. The only thing India and itd dictator Modi care about is its image abroad

Oh what the FUCK. Make up a plausible date and call that dumbass town clerk back and demand THEY fix it. I dunno if it’ll work but they have the record of the original form and access to the bureaucracy, so they have more ability than they’ve used and they goddamn owe you.

I looked back in my call log and found when I called them. It was Sept 3rd. I was on the phone for literally one minute and twenty-seven seconds. But of course, I did not record the call, because why would I do that? Also how would I do that? I do not have the means to do that because as a regular, law-abiding person who works in retail and agriculture, I have no reason to have such precautions in place, and don’t even know how I’d go about doing them; I have instead, as a member of society, simply lived my life by trusting that people meant what they said, and behaving accordingly, and apparently I am in the wrong for that.

So I called and the town clerk’s office hours start at 9:30 so I’ll call back then.

I rehearsed what I was going to say in the car on the way to work and devolved into screaming both times, so hopefully that’s out of my system, because screaming at them isn’t going to help. But WHY DID THEY LIE TO ME. That’s what it boils down to, I did what the law said and what the cop said and what the document said, and then I called them and did what they said then, and they were LYING that they were going to do their job.

I DM’d Dude’s best bud who is a lawyer on Twitter, since that’s the most reliable contact info I have for him, and he said well, next time I guess send things certified mail, you’ve got no recourse but to call them and try to find out what the deal is. He did helpfully point out that the notice is not that my license is *already* suspended, but rather that it is *about* to be, so at least I have that going for me. 

I slept basically not at all, last night, and I’m so mad about all of this I can’t think straight, and there’s just no way to handle it, I have to go on about my business, and know, deep down, fundamentally, that I am a member of a society that depends on people to do their jobs and those people are under no real obligation to actually do their fucking jobs and none of it actually means fucking anything and it could all get so much worse at any single moment and I have no recourse.

i did cry tho. i tried not to. the lady was like oh yeah, the ticket was disposed of and the judge approved it, i wonder why DMV sent you that notice

and i was like all due respect ma’am but the reason they sent that notice is that your office sent them my name and information as being a SCOFFLAW (it’s in all caps on the form), so it doesn’t matter that your records state the ticket was disposed of if your records also still sent my name to the DMV for failing to appear. like, i got one piece of paper here, and that piece of paper has your office’s address and phone number on it, and it’s from the DMV, and i cannot for the entire life of me imagine any other mechanism by which the DMV would have gotten my information and also attached your office’s information to it. 

i’ll take care of it, she said (again, I’m sure it’s the same woman, I remember her voice, also my mom works in our town offices and i know there’s like five people in the whole town government in a municipality that size), just like she said before, and so i said also all due respect ma’am but i need that in some kind of written form, that i can like carry around with me as proof, because all i’ve got otherwise is a call log in my phone saying i called this number at 11am on september 3rd and spoke for 1:27, and that is not a super useful bit of information for me to have, and then I started crying and said if they suspend your license and you don’t know about it and they run your plates they’ll really for real arrest you, in really for real handcuffs behind your back which super sucks if you have shoulder problems and they don’t give a God-damn about shoulder problems if you are a SCOFFLAW in all caps, you can ask me all about how i know this, they put you in the really for real jail in the same kind of holding cells as the really for real murder-type criminals get put in and they take your glasses so you can’t see anything and you just gotta sit there all helpless and blind in this cell with a water fountain coming out of the toilet, so if you’ll forgive me, I am God-damned terrified of not having written proof that i am not a SCOFFLAW (it is always in all caps), because without written proof there is no one who gives a single good goddamn about what you thought you were told.

and she said I will email you all the materials pertaining to this case for your records, and I said, thank you, and hung up, and now I have to hope I spelled my email address correctly on the phone.

I LOATHE doing business on the phone, in case I have not said that four thousand times already.

Oh good, I just got an email from the lady in Canajoharie. I am going to exhale now. I went and cried in the bathroom after I got off the phone. I haven’t cried in months, did you know that? I never got around to crying over the yurt, though I wanted to, but i cried about this, for the minute and a half it took me to get it under control. Thank heavens nobody else is here yet. 

Oh gosh. Oh gosh. I just want to cry some more. Stop that. No, I have shit to do. And it’s not even 10am so I can’t drink either. Also I am at work and it is our busiest time of year, and so I have to go take care of that.

Christ this has been a ride. Breathe in, breathe out, go about your business. I think the worst part is how much worse it could so easily get. The legal system is a thin veil of pretense over a gaping maw of powerlessness, isn’t it? 

What a horrifying thing to reflect on. (upside-down smiley) Now I have go to wash my face again. Oh my God, we live in a society, and that is fucked-up.
