‘twas the night before slaughter

It’s Chicken Processing Eve, and I’ve got awful cramps and slept badly last night because there was a mosquito. I’ve just had an enormous amount of ice cream with chocolate in it and I hope that’s enough to help me really zonk out tonight. I’m so tired.
Farmkid is absolutely ridiculously hyperactive like, in general, after her long trip. (she went to Illinois with her dad for ten days and just got back last night, and it’s only one hour’s time change but she’s never ever going to go to bed at her normal bedtime ever again amen. it doesn’t help that it’s just past the solstice so we have rather a lot of hours of light here at the moment.)
i did just enough work today to become absolutely filthy. But. Slaughterhouse is cleaned and set up, all the tools and implements are cleaned and sterilized, I’ve done all I can. I also weeded a bed of zinnias before the sun was on it this morning, and played in the hose with Farmkid. The water is achingly cold; I’d considered going in the creek today but if the hose water’s that cold I doubt the creek will be much warmer, and it was like, physically painful to touch. I know I used to be a lot more blithe about water temperature as a kid and I thought grownups were silly, but oh my gosh it’s painful now, as an adult.
Last night in desperation to defeat a mosquito I sprayed my pillow with Deep Woods Off before lying down to sleep, and that was a mistake. Not only did it not really deter the mosquito, it also gave me a sore throat that’s still bothering me about twenty hours later. It wreaked merry havoc with my sinuses somehow, I’m all like… lightly mucousy as if I were getting a cold, but I’m absolutely certain it was the mosquito repellent.
That’s sort of ill shit, and i shouldn’t have trifled with it, but listen, there is nothing worse than a mosquito in the bedroom, except for several mosquitoes in the bedroom, which was absolutely the case.
My throat really is bothering me. All day, too. So… *~The More You Know~* don’t do that.
