i do miss gifsets
Jan. 10th, 2019 07:13 amI snuck back to Tumblr on my break at work yesterday and looked for dumb Buzzfeed Unsolved gifsets. I'm discovering, here's the thing, that in the rare event that I actually consume something, it is much richer if I know what other fans of it are most into about it first, so that I can look for those details and connect to them. It's weird, maybe, but I so rarely watch things, or listen to things-- not only do I want recs, but I also want, like, hints of how I should process it. Some idea of what other people have gotten out of it is sometimes just... helpful, or enriching at least. I need help reacting to a thing, you know?
Oh my cat has just come and stolen my arm. Well. That makes typing trickier, but it's clear this is because she thinks typing is a waste of my hands and attention. Hi, darling.
Anyway. This is an amusing experience with this particular fandom, especially because I find the thirst posts so baffling. ( cut for excessive discussion etc )
Anyhow. No, I don't want to write fanfic about it and I don't want to read fanfic about it, I'm just enjoying just uncritically watching a thing and not feeling like i have to leave the room halfway through. I do that, sometimes, with TV, when I'm not sure-- someone puts it on, and I literally go stand near the door, or sit at the edge of the room, so that if I don't like it I don't have to expend the energy of getting sucked into it anyway. The very instant some dude leers at a lady or something horribly violent happens, I can just go.
It turns out their formula of, like, fourteen to twenty-four minutes per episode, plus seven to nine minutes per postmortem, is a really good size chunk of time that I can commit to and waste without ill conscience. And it's good that I've got Dude watching it too; I dont' think he'd mind if I went ahead without him, but I feel weird doing it, so I don't, and that way I don't binge it.
So here's a bunch of hotlinked gifs, if you too miss gifsets. They'll break if Tumblr moves them but in the meantime, I'm sticking it to the man by hotlinking. ( behind a cut because while i never minded scrolling on tumblr i feel weird asking people to do so on DW! )
Ahhh that was self-indulgent. Back to the grind. In other news, I did actually finally beat my embroidery machine into submission long enough to make the machine-sewn portion of my mother's Christmas gift, so now I just have to hand-sew the rest over the course of today and probably the car ride tomorrow. No big!
(It's a... hot pad for the table maybe, only I don't know that I made it washable, so uh, maybe it's just. a pointless eight-inch quilted square. for decorative purposes. with a sarcastic slogan on it. Yeahhhh!)
