i can’t stop like, violently twitching my legs

it’s not like they’re twitching on their own, i have to consciously do the moving, i’m just having really strong urges to move them, like i need to, and it’s annoying because I don’t want to but I need to and it’s weird.

I badly want to go to bed but I made a chicken dinner and I have to package the leftovers and I just. It takes a lot of attention. I can’t do it.

I have to though. Boo.

I have so much material I accumulated in Turkey and Kyrgyzstan, and my social media presence is so fractured, that I’m contemplating getting a new Wordpress or something to post all the content. I have a few thousand words of travelogue that I wrote at the time, and between Dude and me, we’ve got about 1200 photos (I’m going to whittle that down, of course), and I also really want him to do a writeup about how he planned the vacation because he did it without any agencies and with a lot of research himself, and I think it’s fascinating.

So IDK what to do, but I know I’m not going to attempt to use tumblr’s pathetic formatting, this is definitely not a thing for Pillowfort’s rudimentary bugginess, I don’t think Dreamwidth has the capacity for it and I also don’t want to give my RL peeps the Dreamwidth URL because there’s like ten years of weird old Livejournal shit on it that it’s too unwieldy to lock down, and I’m sure as fuck not going to try to post it directly on Facebook.

What I know for absolute certain is that I’m not going to manually copy-paste shit into different sites, either. it’s going to take me long enough to do it one time.

So I think Wordpress it is, because then I can leave it when I’m done and people Googling for information on those places and things can find it.

But I don’t know where to host images. I think I need to ask Dude to set it up, and he’s going to be an almighty jerk about it, but I know he wants it done too. So maybe, maybe we can get this done.

Anybody used Wordpress lately? Does it do image hosting Am I gonna have to figure something out?

newyorker:

The Underrated Pleasures of Eastern European Dumplings

It has been drummed into Eastern Europeans, mostly by misguided Westerners, that our food is monotonously heavy, featuring little besides overcooked cabbage and potato-filled pasta. I was eager to prove that the cuisine of Ukraine and other ex-Soviet countries was as seasonal and regional as it was in places with more reputable cooking, like Italy and France. Our outdoor markets in spring and summer are full of bright soft herbs and sorrel, massive pink tomatoes and enormous watermelons, sour cherries and fragrant peaches, and our food during the warm part of the year is accordingly light and vibrant.

These days, though, I no longer try to hide the fact that my death-row meal would, without question, consist of varenyky, the Ukrainian version of what in Poland are called pierogi. Even though the name comes from varyty, meaning “to boil,” these half-moon-shaped dumplings are sometimes steamed or boiled and then refried. My favorite filling is one of the simplest: homemade cheese curd, called syr, mixed with egg yolks and heavily seasoned with salt. The filling is gently wrapped in the thinnest of pasta doughs and boiled briskly. To serve, varenyky are dropped into a large bowl with about half a stick of melted butter and served with thick, full-fat crème fraîche called smetana. I can only eat about ten ravioli at a time, but I can easily pack away about forty varenyky in a single sitting. When I eat them, I feel like a euphoric child.

urghhhh

i survived a full day back at work

but my chest is congested, my nose is runny, and i have had to go to the bathroom about eight times as many times as usual today and it’s safe to say my gi tract is unhappy about something, not to put too fine a point on it

i need a day in bed but i’m working instead ugh

i definitely got a cold and i’m super pissed about it

a nap won’t help me fix my jet lag but it might keep me alive until tomorrow.

i didn’t nap yesterday, i made myself stay up until 8:45 pm, and then it didn’t work, i was up at 3:30 anyway.

so fuck it i’m napping now
