The traditional dear Santa letter with cookies.
If everybody reading this is having even a tenth as good a time as I am– well, I wish that and more for everyone. The darkest time of year is past and it’s gonna get lighter, I have to believe that. It’s easier to believe, with my family around me. (at Baltimore County, Maryland)

Good Boys get bananas. This wee one-and-a-half pound bantam rooster was faced with a fox attempting to infiltrate his coop nary an hour ago and he decided the best course of action was to try and KICK THE SHIT OUT OF ITS STUPID FOX FACE. He lost a spur in the battle through the fence, but he did not lose his life, or any of his hens’ lives. He bravery allowed his hens to raise the alarm and gave me time to waylay the beast. Corporal is The Good Boy. The Best Boy. The Bravest Boy.

please tell corporal i would Die for Him

I would also die for Corporal.

Reblog if you too would die for Corporal

I wish I had a photo to go along with this, but– our commercial flock’s biggest rooster, Fabio, fought off a red-tailed hawk not long ago! He’s so badass. Roosters aren’t necessarily useless if you have free-range/pastured poultry– they can be useful for more than noisemaking! And one of the subordinate roosters, Odin, promotes himself to free-range every winter, and keeps a little flock of about 12 ladies safe. They sleep on the pigs, and forage in the barnyard, and manage never to be eaten by predators.

Roosters’ natural aggression can stand a flock in good stead. You don’t have to eat them! Sometimes they are Good Brave Boys.
