This hell app somehow manages to use five times the data of the full location-based MMO I’ve been playing almost constantly, and it still doesn’t load images 90% of the time

tumblr is coded with the html equivalent of tongue depressers and glue

I’m more impressed it uses seven times the amount of data as “the rest of the internet”

well i mean, tumblr loads pictures, videos, and audio. I’d reckon the most PGO has to load is the GPS data and data on the pokemon that you find.

Facebook has to load all the same things that Tumblr does, and yet the data usage in that app is not NEARLY as bad as Tumblr’s.

And Twitter too. The tumblr app has no excuse.

Yeah, “don’t ever ever ever use Tumblr on mobile data for any length of time” is something I learned early on after I got stuck somewhere and promptly chewed through a gig of data just scrolling down my dash for an hour…

I would love to know why the app is so power- and data-hungry. I can soooort of understanding taking time to load video, but to be unable to load images most of the time, *even over wifi* is insane and inexcusable. There’s something strange and probably old and unfixed going on under the hood.

it does this if you eschew the app and use it in chrome too.
it also does this if you use it on your laptop. i had mobile tethering on and was using my laptop and i chewed through almost 2 gb of data in about three hours. it was unreal.
it is the worst site. that’s why i haven’t been on. that 2 gb was supposed to last me a week at least.
