Home Out In The Wind has about 60k words and will be updated once weekly, twice weekly if I’m really optimistic, and then the as yet unnamed, but almost entirely complete sequel (it’s done start to end but there are two crucial scenes at not quite the end that literally consist of [Conclude Arc A Here] and [Resolve Thing B Here], which is about one afternoon of solid writing if I’m motivated) will begin posting immediately on a similar schedule.
I firmly plan to update weekly on Wednesdays barring catastrophe or just insurmountable logistics, but then I think about how long 9 weeks is and don’t want it to take that long, LOL. I don’t know how many chapters the rest is, but it’s another 90k words, so. It may vary but it’ll be at least one a week.
I’ve written fics this long but I always wind up with it all complete but the last 5k words, or some dumb bullshit like that, so this was an exercise in self-discipline, to write the whole thing first. It was really hard, but it’s about a thousand times better because I did. (Kes wasn’t a character until about the last 10k words, initially; the whole holonovelas idea only showed up about 100k words into it and then came out of nowhere and was oddly pasted in. Shit like that. Arana wasn’t really a speaking character until the final-final revisions, when I added the first 5k words of the story. That kind of thing.)
So it’s not that it’s so monumental, but there are inescapable logistics, and also I just couldn’t wait any longer to post it, i had to give myself permission to start once the last chapter was written because otherwise i was going to drown in the waiting. But I wanted to finish it so I’d be able to figure out what it was about, and avoid the fate of my other WIPs that are languishing. (I’ll finish them soon! I will! she cries into the night, pretty much constantly.)
