Insanely, I have another weekend day off. OMG.
Am trying, today, to figure out how to sew rabbit fur trim as a faux-lining into that gates-of-hell surcote I made on a whim. The surcote is about done-- bound the sleeve openings in black canvas, with the idea that the fur, sewn to other fabric (probably the same black canvas) could then be basted onto those permanent sleeve openings in a temporary/removable kind of way, with the idea being I could remove the fur to wash the garment.
I had to put a mismatched gore in at the back, as the skirt was nowhere near full enough. I moved the existing, matching back gore to the front sides-- it was two half-gores, from low hip height, so now they're just below my hips at the front, extending the full gores at the sides. The back now has two pieced-together half-gores made from an old pair of black trousers. It doesn't match and now I'm thinking I ought to have put the black half-gores at the front, and left the matching purple in the back, but it's too late now. Maybe some other time I'll revise it. I think the black would have looked good at the front low hips, as a flash of contrast. Instead perhaps I'll bind those seams with a decorative finish? I thought about couching down a little gold thread when I flat-fell the seams, maybe? I dunno.
Anyway, rabbit fur first, because once I've figured that out and finished the neckline, it just needs to be hemmed to be wearable, so next week is feasible as a completion date. I could probably cheat and use a blind machine hem stitch to finish it-- I just have to figure out how.
Any tips for working with rabbit fur are appreciated...
As an aside, sort of copied from Facebook, Z went out to the bar last night with some high school buds ("Man Beer Night", amusingly; I didn't mind being excluded because one friend just had a baby with his wife and doesn't get out much, and the other just went through an unexpectedly horrible divorce, so I really don't need to get all feminist and insist on being included; I was fine sitting at home and writing instead). Since we don't have a TV, we haven't been seeing any Olympics. Of course they were on the TV at the bar. Z texted me: "Women's short-track speed skating is so boring I can't watch it. Their offense is spectacular, but their defense is nonexistent. Roller derby has ruined me forever."
LOL I just hit "spell check" instead of "post" by accident. Whoops! I don't need to see that, thanks.
