The best part about never ever smoking is that when you're super-stressed, 1/4 of a clove cigarette will get you so high, there's no need to resort to illegal drugs. I've been working on this one cigarette for a week now. I'm about halfway done. I can't imagine how people manage to smoke the whole thing.

I am realizing that the "basic" Bocksten tunic design I've been working on for Z isn't really suited to him. Making it narrow enough not to be baggy makes it really odd-shaped on him. He needs slanted shoulder seams since he has slanty shoulders. And his body being the shape it is, the boxy cut isn't much good. Also since I'm using cheap lightweight fabrics, there's nothing to give it good drape. So I'm making an effort at a Hedeby tunic design. (I'd thought of doing the Kragelund tunic but I realized that the boxiness would kind of be even more pronounced, so no.)
I'm being Helped right now; Remi has been grooming herself and watching me while perched atop the fabric I'm about to sketch out my pattern upon. She keeps looking at me and waiting for me to eject her from the fabric, but I'm still plotting out the measurements on graph paper, so I'm not ready for the fabric yet anyway. So she keeps looking for other parts of herself to wash, to occupy herself while sitting on the fabric.
How she knew which pile was fabric I was about to use, i don't know; I admit the living room is a disaster with fabric bits everywhere.
I am torn, though-- lay out the tunic now, or take a break and sew myself a skirt? Hmmm. I want to piece myself a cool gypsy-ish skirt out of fabric fragments, but they're sort of all different weights and combining them would kind of be bad... Maybe I can use the lighter-weight scraps as either a partial lining, the inside of pockets (!), or appliqués or overlays.
Maybe I should wait a bit on the skirt; if I do another tunic, there will be more scraps.

Haha, I have triumphed; Remi concluded I wasn't using that fabric after all, and stalked off. She doesn't know how good her batting average is.

I am partly sitting here getting ready to sew because I am waiting for a mouse to come out from behind the fridge. Chita brought it in and released it, because she is an idiot. We're about 90% certain it's behind the fridge. Z is sure he heard it squeak; I'm sure the squeak was the plastic bristles of the utility broom as he poked behind the fridge.
I'm 100% sure Chita's an idiot.

Work today was actually kind of fun. I like my Saturday co-worker; he's a reasonable fellow, about my mom's age, with a good sense of humor and a fun way of telling stories, and he's very nice to me. He knows his stuff, too, which is nice. My Sunday coworker is, well, a Weird Dude. I like him too, I just know he's very very easy to fluster and frazzle, and last week when it was busy, he just lost his head, and does so every time. Not like it's bad, he just gets awfully confused, and it can be worrying; I'm prone to confusion and distraction and getting flustered too, so it's not a great pair. Oh well. With any luck, it'll be slow; without, well, I'll just have to get better at not being flusterable. I'm a work in progress, right?

Unfortunately today I fell in love with a $250 lens. OK, $300, but I might get an employee discount. It's silly, but I want it badly; it's quite, quite similar to the lens on my old film Fujica that I banged around with all over Europe, only I could take awesome macro shots with it. (It goes down to 1:1.)
Instead I bought a battery, which retails for $49.99 but I managed to get down to, well, way less. Perk of the job. I don't get much of a price break on the big stuff, but little stuff, I can get a deal on. So there's that.

Oh I haven't yet tried the online ordering of prints. Maybe I should do that tonight, to see how it works, since I know I'll be the one to see it tomorrow morning?
