Busy day. Started off doing yet another workout. Do I work out non stop or what lately? Yesterday I did some pansy-ass Billy Blanks video and this morning I was really sore and for half a second began to respect Blanks until I remembered that oh yes, I also shoveled a shit-ton of snow yesterday in a frantic hurry, so it's unlikely to have been the pansy-ass workout video that did it. Phew. Got home from workout. Z had shoveled walk!! I was so excited. Poor Z never exercises so he had noodley arms and was sad.
So I did dishes from yesterday, as we didn't make Fi do any dishes yesterday. Made lunch. Did more dishes, scrubbed sink and surrounding counters. Put dishes away. Swept bathroom floor, scrubbed tub and toilet. My own noodley arms made the scrubbing difficult, so I gave up before tackling the sink, more's the pity.
Decided to make piparkukas dough, which requires 24 hours of rest. Decided to simultaneously start another batch of mead, inspired by a conversation with a teammate who makes her own wine. Re-bottled and filtered several assorted batches of mead at various stages of completion-- all of those will be ready within a couple of days. I think maybe we should drink some mead around here. Hm.
Finally started new batch of mead-- a recipe I haven't tried before. Am skeptical. Oh well, it needs 2 months, then I'll find out. (The Internet swears it's really good.)
Simultaneously got piparkukas mixed up. I remember the process being more arduous. We'll see if I screwed it up. As an experiment I pressed the warm dough between sheets of wax paper on a cookie sheet, and am refrigerating that, instead of the usual ball. Hopefully this will make it less insanely difficult to roll out tomorrow... but we'll see.
Shit, it only just now crossed my mind that what with all the shoveling and every single person currently in the house having sore arm muscles, this may wind up being more difficult than I had anticipated. Shit shit shit. Oh well.
Fi, bless her heart, went out and shoveled the last little bit Z hadn't been able to get to, as it was coming on dark and I was in the midst of all these cooking things I'd started. She also thoroughly de-iced both cars and as much of the driveway as she could chip, before the temperature went back below freezing (it was cold, but sunny today, so any sunlit areas were a bit melty). Good girl.
We're going out for her birthday tonight, since last night we stayed home and got hammered instead because of the blizzard.
It's supposed to blizzard again tomorrow, though. Which is why I was so insistent that we had to get everything shoveled properly today, so we're at least starting off clean tomorrow.
OK, gotta go get ready for dinner. I was busy today but still can't quite figure out where the whole day went.
