lost drive

Z lost another hard drive. Fortunately, after the last incident, in which he lost everything, he set us up an easy-to-use backup drive system. On impulse, after getting the "It has been 20 days since you last backed up your data" warning, he had done a backup... Friday.
So he has lost all the work he did this week, but that's all he's lost. (About 25 billable hours. So he's more or less out about 600 bucks. But he can recreate the work. Just means some unpaid overtime.)
But that's all he's lost. Fortunately the Apple store had a hard drive in stock, so they replaced it in 20 minutes while we waited. Otherwise, if they'd had to send it out... he would've been pretty hosed. It's not like we have a spare computer hanging around. He'd have to wipe my hard drive to restore his onto mine, leaving me computerless, but then I'd be able to get my data back when he got his computer back and restored my hard drive.
If nothing went wrong.
I don't know; I might not survive something like that.
But it didn't happen, so I'll breathe a little sigh of relief. Fortunately, it was a known issue, and so was covered regardless of warranty-- though it was actually under warranty as well, so doubly covered.

This is the second Macbook hard drive he has lost, however. The last one went under, similarly without warning, in May of last year. A little over a year ago.

The Genius Bar guy said, slowly and nervously, "Did you... had you, er, backed up your data?" Obviously braced for tears.
"Shit," Z said. The Genius flinched slightly. "Not since... Friday."
The Genius telegraphed shock and relief. "Friday," he said. "Man you're way ahead of the game."
He explained he'd have to reinstall the operating system, and Z said not to bother, he'd just restore from his backup.
"Craaap," Z said.
"What?" the Genius asked, somewhat trepidatious.
"I have to reinstall Windows!" Z moaned.
The guy next to him at the Genius bar snickered. The Genius, to his credit, merely nodded.

Now Z is shooting Nerf darts all over the house. Sometimes he is a boy.

I threw a meeting and nobody came!!!
Bah.
It's my last fuck-up as chair of the PR Committee. At least that's behind me. I can't exactly hand it off to nobody, and I'm pissed I left my house an hour and a half early, but at least I got a milkshake out of it. Which I promptly regretted when Stormie made us do some rather difficult drills in practice.
Eugh.

I am drinking heavily now.

Anyway. Z has rechristened Remi "Reminald" because he thinks it is funnier than Remington. Anyway if Reggie is short for Reginald then Remi should be short for Reminald.
I guess it makes sense to me. It's funny. Remi doesn't answer to it. But fuck, she's a cat, she doesn't answer to anything.

Today's worry about the hard drive was really tiring. And I was in a really awful mood. I am straight-up about to zonk the hell out, man. But I got a bunch of rum and ginger beer to finish up first. And then I have to finish getting ready for tomorrow's party.
Oh yeah, I'm hosting a party tomorrow. Gah! There's a lot to do.
I'll be fine. Whatever.


And this is why I continue to skate, even though the whole situation stresses me out so much. Because when I'm done skating, you could pretty much hit me with a sledgehammer and I'd be like, "Whatever."
God damn it, Mia, you've got me so addicted to exercise endorphins...

On that note, my bike trainer arrived today. I may have to put it together tomorrow. I should wait until Saturday, though. Paaaaatience.


Maybe I'll be able to sleep through this morning's inevitable rumpus. Here's hoping. Bottoms up!
