brrrrr.

I decided this morning to get up early and have a nice hot shower to ease my various muscle aches and help alleviate the menstrual cramps that are still bothering me. (They usually last about a day and a half to two days, though they were so exceptionally bad yesterday, brr.)

Our hot water heater wakes up late. It doesn't like to actually keep water hot overnight, which is fine and good and whatever. So you've got to use enough hot water that it notices, and kicks on again.

So I woke up extra early and did a few dishes. This usually helps. I didn't have quite as much time as I'd hoped, so I tried to be quick about it-- rinsed all the empty beer bottles lined up on the counter, put away a few things that were clean, washed a couple of pots. It was hard, as I was trying to be quiet and not succeeding. I spent about 15 minutes intermittently running the hot water, trying to get the level depleted enough that the heater would kick on.

Then I went and got in the shower. It wasn't really terribly warm. But I just didn't have any more time. So I did my pathetic trick of filling a cup of water and then dumping it over myself, so that what little warmth the water had wouldn't dissipate in the air between the immovable shower head and my body.

Then it went cold.
Completely cold.

Oh there is nothing in the world quite so fucking awesome as a cold shower when you have sore muscles and bad cramps and it is seven fucking degrees outside.
Fuck! I rinsed my hair, swathed myself in a towel, and decided, as I do approximately annually, that I had better blow-dry my hair.
We have a travel hair dryer that Z borrowed from his mom last winter to help shrinkwrap the windows. He never gave it back. I coiled it up neatly and put it away.
I pulled it out. Unwound the cord. Plugged it in. Nothing.
Doesn't work.

I dried my hair with a paper towel and a curling iron this morning. Just enough to get some of the cold out.

It was one of those mornings. And no, my hair isn't curly; I bought an extra-nice curling iron so maybe it wouldn't damage my hair, only to discover that the barrel is too large and thus it only acts as a straightener on my hair. Yes-- that photo I posted of myself the other day, I'd slept with my hair in rollers, and then tried to use a curling iron to touch it up, and the net effect was that the curling iron straightened the hair that the roller had frizzed.
Yep.
I give up.
Also, I need a haircut; no matter what I do my hair is tangly the first time I move my head. It is time for a chop. I'll probably ask for two inches and lose eight; I'm prepared. But I should take a picture before I go just to prove that yes, I could sit on it.
