dreams?

I don't remember any dreams last night, but I am sitting at my desk at work completely confused as to whether any number of conversations or events actually happened or not, so I rather think I must have dreamed extensively about real life.

I hate when this happens.

I was just thinking, reading the latest on Smart Bitches Trashy Books, about how many websites/publications/communities I follow that I'm really not actually involved in.
I eagerly read webcomics aimed at demographics that are not me. I have never played a video game, and yet read every Penny Arcade as it's published. I am neither a mathematician nor a programmer, yet I read XKCD even on the days I have to have Z explain the joke. And I don't read romance novels-- I've read like, two, ever, that were overtly romance novels-- and yet I read SBTB religiously. For Chrissake, there are even a few infertility blogs that I follow, and here and there I enjoy reading parenting blogs. Why? Why? I don't know, I don't need their help or advice to raise... my cat.

People talk about the Internet catering to niches, about publishing books for niches, etc-- they talk about niches like they're the be-all end-all of this new Information Overload world.

But I know I can't be the only one who delves fairly deeply into inapplicable niches. I can't be alone in this, I know I can't.
