Fascinatingly, we'd had a meeting with the refs prior to the bout, and they had told us explicitly. "Fighting is part of the game, we understand. But there are rules of engagement. If you punch someone in the body, that's a major penalty. But if you punch someone in the face, we're ejecting you from the game."
Guess who got ejected from the game?
Oh, nobody. Four girls, two from each team, had to sit out the period. But that was all. That Tori Nado useless bitch was back in the third period. But, as I said disgustedly to my teammates, "It does us little good to get her ejected-- she's not very good." She jammed once and we sent her sprawling like five times. Sweets was a far more valuable player to us, and it was far worse to lose her.
Still and all, that was pretty awesome. (You can't really tell from the video, but after the girl punched her and they were on the ground, Sweets hooked her leg around the girl's neck and went for her eyes.)
To her disappointment, Sweets has not a bruise on her body (except one on a knuckle). She said bitterly, at the after party, "I didn't even get a shiner from that bitch."
More on all this later, but for the moment, I wrote a lengthy and possibly technical but probably not all boring generalized reaction to the game at my Myspace blog.
I'm in the video, by the way-- at the beginning, skating next to Sweets, and then at the end I come in and haul a girl off Sweets because the refs are just fucking standing there. That outside ref that's standing there watching the whole thing-- I don't know that he was actually at the game. There were spectators more aware of what was going on than him. Who stands there, as a ref, and watches two girls yell at each other, and then when one punches the other, steps out of the way so that they can both fall to the floor unimpeded? Jesus.
So a ref grabbed me and pulled me away from the Tank Girl, but I wasn't even interested in hurting her, I just wanted her off of Sweets. Why a ref could pull me off her, but not her off Sweets, I don't know. That did kind of piss me off, except afterwards I realized Sweets had pretty much been laughing through the whole thing.
