Hm. I have finally scrabbled my way onto the Internet to find out that it didn't miss me. I feel oddly let-down. Did anyone else notice that Buffalo was kind of... wiped off the map, a bit?
I was nearly trapped at work on Thursday night. In my neighborhood we got about two feet of snow.
Four hundred thousand of us are without power. I am writing this from... my mother's house, three hundred miles away, which I had intended to drive to on Friday, but could not, because there was a driving ban for my county and the surrounding three, and also 150 miles of the Thruway were closed.

mother2012 is OK. I can't get ahold of many people from here, and don't know when we'll be returning to Buffalo; the electric company indicated that the damage from the storm is unprecedented in their history and they imagine it will take at least a week to restore power to most customers. When I left there were still driving bans in effect for many towns (including the one we live in, but we drove the tenth of a mile to the border without incident), and a number of major streets remain impassable to vehicular traffic due to downed trees and power lines. The power had been restored to one of the main pumping stations but there was an advisory that any drinking water ought to be boiled prior to consumption due to how long the water system was without power.
We stayed at Z's mom's house last night, because between the three of us we only had one working battery-operated radio, and it seemed more sensible to pool our resources in one house. She heated her house with her oven, baking us bread and muffins.
I don't have time to catch up on my f-list. I am very tired. And I don't know when I'll get back to my house, or what I'll come back to. At least we don't have a tree, so our house wasn't damaged. But I don't imagine we'll have power (or heat) until at least next weekend. So much for everything in my fridge...
I would like to state for the record that this is the first time in recorded history that there has been lake-effect snow in Buffalo in October, and anyone who says there is no climate change is full of horse shit.
