I've cleaned off my desk a bit, taking advantage of the gorgeous new shelves Ann and Z put up around it, and the thing now on the top of the remaining pile of junk there is a Bravissimo catalogue. Which, of course, features a girl with a large and very lovely pair of boobs on the cover. So I keep getting distracted and staring at it. Which is not to say I'm getting nothing done today, but I could probably be getting more done.
I am myself wearing a bra from Bravissimo today, and coupled with my bright neon orange "Stuff is Awesome" shirt, it makes for a rather impressive acreage of front, if you will. I need more bras. I ordered some more, in their after-holiday sale, but of course something's on backorder. So that and my Burpee seed order are (I say melodramatically) Never Going To Arrive.

Another amusement is a group email bouncing around all Z's buddies, wherein he was trying to invite them all for a Night Out At Hockey one of these games, and I keep sidetracking the discussion (not that that's difficult) into a discussion of just how kinky a goalie threesome would be. (As Tom put it, "goalie pads or not during threesome?") If ever I have some spare downtime (ha), I simply must write some RPS about that. I mean, three freakishly tall goofy-lookin dudes with spines like slinkies? Yeahhhh.

I finished the Portrait Of An Ugly Couch this morning. "Finishing" involved overpainting muddiness with ridiculously bright colors-- when Ann and I were painting we kept mixing our colors together which is fun and painterly but looks muddy. The couch, mind you, is brown and orange and yellow and chartreuse, but never muddy. So I did some drybrush painting instead of washes, and used a heavy-bodied medium to try to get it to have some volume, and also had far too much fun for my own good with that tube of Cadmium Orange. I am quite proud of having used up two tubes of Cadmium Yellow, a tube of Napthol Red Light, and the remains of a partly-hardened-over tube of Raw Sienna. I am one who never uses things up, so it was an accomplishment for me.

The painting was done over an old painting of mine I did that involved a pair of dragons and some heavy foliage, and if you know where to look, you can still see most of the red dragon, and the outline of the blue one. Which very privately amuses me. I have this thing about dragons, but I don't talk about it anymore. Someday I'll finish that book, though, and y'all may then discover precisely why my LJ handle is what it is. But that's for another day.

Today, I am working on BarbariansNovel for the next two hours at least, and I am making progress. My secret is that I have a scene outline and whenever I stick on something I'm simply moving to the next scene. Which means there's a bit of trailing off, and no pacing whatsoever, but a lot of actual ground getting covered. Unfortunately I've skipped a lot of pivotal moments, and when I go back and write them, they'll probably cause ruptures in continuity that I'll have to go back and write over. But I like the narrative.

Now just wait, I'll finally finish it and I'll submit it either to an editor or a good beta-reader, and they'll say I should rewrite it in third person. But, the first-person is important to me as a POV exercise, so I'm sticking to it now. Which does have some interesting plot side-effects, in that the POV character is unconscious for several important scenes and has to figure out afterward what went on. (Thereby insuring that if I rewrite it, it'll entirely break. Ha!)

My purchase, last week, of Portishead's Dummy was a good one. *pats self on back*
