catching up
Jul. 4th, 2005 09:24 amWoof, lots of entries to read.
I have so many photos and so many stories to tell I don't know where to start, and the temptation is overwhelming to just not, to just say 'it was lovely' and post a cute dog picture and go on. But I feel I should talk about it, if only to break up the monotony of the last few months I've spent bitching about work almost without pause.
I would do a photo-narrative of it all, but there were several long periods where I just put the camera down and participated, which is something that I am forever struggling with. I have such a poor memory, and such a love of taking pictures, that often, in retrospect, I am happier documenting than participating; the people I love do it, and I photograph it, and then I give them the photographs as my participation. But then, sometimes, I can't get any good shots, and then I am neither participating nor documenting, and that's not at all rewarding. I became aware at the party that I was repeatedly taking uninteresting photos, and so instead I went and talked to people. I have a few nice ones, and had some good conversations instead.
And the nice thing about this camera is that while it's intimidating and big, it is also very easy to use. So there are no less than three photographs of me, taken by someone who asked me to hand them the camera for a moment. Which is rare-- I never have photos of myself taken.
I am actually having trouble looking at the computer screen at the moment-- my eyes are shaking-- so I think I will do something else. But know that an update is coming with many photos-- I just have to compose it.
And Dave's relatives and friends mostly just gave him money for his graduation (aside from an improbable number of monkeys), which means that his checking account is healthier than it has been in months and months (nearly a year now since RIT's tuition bill cleaned him out entirely), and we are considering taking a short vacation to perhaps do a wine-tasting tour. As I haven't left Buffalo for more than a few hours at a time since midwinter, this is a very exciting prospect for me. :D
