boys shall we drink, or what d'ye think?
Sep. 21st, 2004 06:32 pm(sorry, an irrelevant line from a song i'm listening to.)
I have been itching a bit to work on the Original Novel again. I reread the most recent rewrites over the weekend, and today I spent the entire freaking day reading bits of the 400,000-odd words I wrote of the first draft (and second and third and fourth all together). It's horribly organized, by which I mean not at all. My fanfiction is better organized. I'm going to have to start over, and I'm going to organize the newer stuff far better. Definitely.
I'm also going to beat Dave into setting up our backup server. As it stands, I have not backed up my files since we moved. This makes me uneasy and unhappy. There's a 160-GB server with wireless ethernet and a mini-ITX board, sitting in the next room, not put together because I don't know how to get it up and running. And that strikes me as stupid. I could have dropped my computer while carrying it from the car, and then I would have no backup of any of my stories since May. I've done a damn lot of work since May. I also have a terrible memory. So, backups will resume, but hopefully I won't have to learn how to configure the server myself, because that would be a pain in the ass.
In the meantime, I've resumed my journaling of the novel (where I left off) and am debating about themes. I think I'm going to try being more organized and less ... overenthused... this time. I had some good stuff. I'm going to build on it. I'm just going to have to redo it all entirely in order to do so.
Anyway. I hope I have the gumption to stick with it this time.
