a residency in the Carriage-House
Jun. 16th, 2002 04:55 pmI'm gonna make this quick cuz I gotta potty...
Dave's visit was fun, he slept in the garage, which he informed me was technically a "carriage house"-- being a garage with a furnished room over it. I was pleased at this new label, and will be sure to apply it in future whenever I tell people they are to sleep there. Sounds better than "the garage", which upsets people when you tell them they're sleeping there. April was really unenthusiastic about sleeping there, for one...
So, I was over there tidying up for him, and i realized... sure it's full of junk, but it's not THAT full of junk. It's a damn sight less hopeless than the closet where I am trying to live, for one.
So I'm going to move over there.
Yay!!
This makes it actually possible for me to find homes for all my boxes and bags and such. I know I can make my room into a usable space if I put my living things in the garage.
Downside-- my computer has to stay here, because there's no phone line in the garage, so i couldn't use it.
But, upside, I can use this room more or less as my office. (Hmm... maybe I could take the bed out of it, and put a desk in instead!! I have a small one, in the storage locker, and I know I could get at it. Oooh.)
So, the world is full once more of excitement and possibility.
Not that I plan on living there for long...
at the moment, my plans are:
June 16-23: Katy visits. I move into the garage, organize room and garage, and storage space. Possibly begin preparations for storage space to be constructed in barn.
June 23-30: Camp, with Abbie-- I spend a week hiking, swimming, cooking, cleaning, cutting firewood, drawing, brainstorming, writing, and working on hypertext stuff, teaching Abbie what I do, the goal being to produce the equivalent of a small suite of short stories in hypertext, some independent and some collaborative, by the end of the week.
July 1-7: Hunt intensively for jobs.
July 7th-14th (dates sketchy): Maybe visit New Jersey with Fiona, visit Dave, visit the city, harass potential employers?
After that things get sketchy. But my goal is to be employed by August. After July 15th or so I will begin looking into temporary positions in unrelated fields, including (sigh) retail.
I have a number of projects to work on before that, creative and professional type projects (maybe interview my grandmothers for an expansion on my nonfiction family biography hypertext idea? scan grandma's old photo albums, and send a CD-ROM of family photos to everyone in the extended family [grandma kelly's entire photo collection is over in the garage, largely unsorted. it would take me several weeks to make a dent in it, but i could start it, with the idea of maybe finishing in time for christmas.] i need to download drivers for win2K though because i can't stand using that scanner on the old computer... i have some other ideas in mind, including a cute collaborative project to work on with abbie about her goldfish, a hypertext Diary Of A Goldfish idea of some kind...)
yadda yadda yadda. Ok, i still have to potty. i can hold it but not quite forever. so, farewell y'alls.
