For the first time ever, I think, I am popping in to LJ to say, "I have not posted in far too long and I am sorry for that, but am not dead." There is no time to explain this weekend, except to say that I finished the dress, entirely, just in time-- really, everything I had reasonably expected to do, was done-- and wore it. A relative of the groom (a 19-year-old girl) said somewhat shyly, "Wow, you look like you're really a person from... back then." I thought it was the highest compliment, even better than when the historic site's staff complimented me on my gear. (The wedding was at the 18th-century site of the Knickerbocker Mansion in my hometown of Schaghticoke, a restored formerly-derilict mansion built in 1788-90 by the local Dutch noble sorts, after the border wars with Vermont and the Revolution. How many people knew that New York and Vermont fought a war? Not many. I'm hazy on the details myself.)
I digress.
It worked out. The bride is married to the groom. The families are happy. All is wonderful. Z had a great time. I had a great time. I somehow skinned my nose, without falling, and am dealing with that aftermath. But I must go to work now-- I'm doing laundry and trying to get it hung out before I go, because oh my lord, my clothes are dank-nasty. It was humid. The heatwave broke just in time for the wedding, but it broke in a downpour, and then the sun came out and mmmnnnnghhh. I would've been fine save for the polyester-and-steel corset I was wearing instead of stays.
I did have to emergency-peel the bride out of her quilted underpetticoat. WHO MAKES A GIRL WEAR A QUILTED PETTICOAT IN JULY IN UPSTATE NY. It was *silly*. I had to shed my simple cotton petticoat too, but at least I didn't almost faint during the first dance. She was fine once I got the bedspread out of there. It was lovely but really silly. Quilted petticoats are winter wear, dears. (Her outfit was gorgeous, though-- Silly Sisters made it and it was meticulous.)
