I sunscreened my face and shoulders and spent most of the day outside today. I went out for a few hours in the afternoon, to a job interview-- OMG! I know!-- and then worked for about an hour before dinner, which Z made. Hurrah.
I was aware that my shirt was riding up so my lower back was a bit exposed to the elements, but since the sun was low and mostly, I was facing west, I didn't worry much.
After dinner, I itched my lower back, and felt that something was wrong. I went immediately in and showed Z and asked him if he saw anything.
"Spots," he said. "Red spots."
"Shit," I said. I sat and watched a brief YouTube video with him, and my back started itching/prickling. I got up and went to the bathroom, and he followed and looked at my back again. It was all red now, and the former spots were monochrome, and raised.
"Hives," I said grimly. Must be.
I had Z apply Solarcaine, because at least if I couldn't feel any itchiness I was less likely to absentmindedly scratch and make it worse. I don't know what else to do-- I might have some generic Benadryl somewhere, but I don't know if that will help.
But I'm completely bewildered: sun? am I allergic to sun? Then why not my bare arms? If I'm reacting to some other thing, plant or chemical or dirt or whatever, why not on my hands or arms or legs, where I would have touched it?
I don't know. But now, on top of my Mom-tan (Mom always gets burnt there too; we lock our legs and bend over while digging in the garden, and while I alterate this with squatting, that doesn't help much, because squatting makes my pants go even lower), I've got big red welts.
