Okay I threatened to do it, and I did. A series of posts about the music I’m using to write this fucking novel that nobody asked for, which won’t goddamn finish itself, and I’ve come this far, I’m not posting it until it’s done. In the meantime, here’s the music in it. Mostly, this is music that Poe performs, or Finn overhears, or that I just thought would totally work.
In-text, a lot of it has different lyrics, slightly different subject matter, etc.; a lot of the songs are completely different from the ones that inspired them but as I am not a recording-quality musician I cannot show you the real songs, only the inspirations. There’s a lot of hand-waving here.
So!
#1 is a gimme, a real Oscar Isaac performance from out in the wild, just to get you in the mood. Lyrics are transcribed (haphazardly, by me, so, look ‘em up if you really wanna know) from the Bob Dylan version, to which Oscar is beautifully faithful except for the part where his voice is much sweeter and less fucked-up than Dylan’s.

This one is not *exactly* plot-significant really, but is beautifully atmospheric. Surely, a lot of the starfighter pilots, perhaps, don’t like it in the wind, but they can’t go home this way.
I’m trialing “In The Wind” as a title, but I dunno. Too short? Too vague? I don’t know! I’m making the crazy experiment of trying to come up with a title ahead of actually posting it. There are a lot of crazy experiments in this novel. (By “crazy experiments” I mean, “trying the thing everyone else does that really frequently works”, and it’s been very weird for me.)
Maybe “Can’t Go Home This Way”. That’s… five words. Ugh. CGHTW. No. Bah. But they’re short words! Monosyllables even! Does that count?
