They've already got videos up on Myspace from the bout!
I didn't realize the dude was there with the camera right on my face as I did the national anthem. There I am. Holy fuck.

And look, a highlight reel:
http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=1938559050

(If you're looking for me, I'm in a black t-shirt, and wearing black and white striped socks, and white caps on my kneepads, which are distinctive-- everyone else's are black. I don't recognize myself either, but the kneepads are really helpful.) There are some really impressive shots of Alley Oops #42 hitting the ground hard and actually bouncing up-- like she hits the ground so hard she bounces, and on the bounce up she actually keeps her feet. I don't know how she does it. I don't fall that much and I for sure don't bounce up. So that's impressive to watch for.

Also, at the end, when Metal Mistress in red is messing around with Mia Mauler in black-- it cuts out just before the funny part, when Mia lovingly embraces Metal and puts her into a headlock that looks like a friendly embrace, and Metal can't get out of it... that was just at halftime and people were like, "what are they doing?" It was only really funny if you realized that Metal wasn't really playing anymore and Mia was. (Metal started it.)

There's a vid of our dress rehearsal, too-- it's mostly notable because of a couple of falls. One got made into its own vid separately-- Sweet Pea, skating in black as pivot, body-checks the red jammer, Lease a Hearse, into the wall. Lisa took a couple minutes to get up, did not skate again that day, and was still sore on Saturday but still managed to skate well. I'd be upset at them singling out the hit like that except that I know Lisa's ok, and when you look, yes it was a clean hit by Sweets. She does that, though-- when she hits people like that on that side of the track so that they go airborne, they hit the wall with no time to slow down, and it's really risky. But it's clean...
There's another quick fall where Pissi Longstocking (in black, red hair) falls forward onto her knees, and you can see how well-drilled she is that she never for a second splays her fingers out. There are some good clean falls and I think it does show that we've trained hard and know what we're doing.

I wish the quality were a little higher-- I'm having to use things like the minor details of people's familiar equipment to figure out who's who and what's going on. (i.e. Blackie DeckHer wears a white armband so her number shows over her arm tattoo; Lease a Hearse has a gray helmet; Flo Torious tends to skate with one foot in front of the other; Mia has very broad shoulders and a bent-at-the-waist skating style.)

I can see I hang back too much, focusing too much on keeping my line protected and not enough on keeping my counterpart occupied. I will be working on that. I should probably skate outside block more often to keep myself from getting too zone-oriented.

Anyhow. Fascinating. And yes, that's my real voice but it's not how I usually sing. Please understand that the video of my singing is after the false start when they turned on music in the wrong key after I had already started singing and I had to ask them to please turn it off, and I know I sounded like a prima donna, but it was in the wrong fucking key, so I lost my note and wound up singing the whole thing far far too high. Whatever! I agreed to do it not because i have the best voice (I surely don't; Diamond CrushHer sang for the Padres) but because I know I don't give a shit if I don't sound perfect, and I knew I'd be loud enough no matter what.

What, no comments on this entry?

You looked beautiful. Singing, that is. And you're right, loud and confident was much better than weak and thin, whether exactly on key or not. Don't try out for American Idol though.
