Arrived home last night, having gotten a ride with Z, and as we stepped in the door he fiddled with his cellphone and suddenly my computer started playing music. Yes: he's upgraded the OSes on every computer in this house to Tiger, and while he was at it, installed his new Bluetooth adapter on my computer so that he can use his cellphone as a remote control.
So he proceeded to spend the next several hours playing remote DJ. I didn't mind; the mouse suddenly veering off of its own accord bothered me far less than one would expect it might.
We worked together to make shrimp Szechwan for dinner: Z's choice, and his favorite recipe ever, handed down by his father. Then we drank heavily and watched the movie, which I think I mentioned during a brief intermission-- my last post.
It was great fun, and I rather like it as a New Year's tradition. Although I think Z didn't get a proper birthday-- he never does, being a New Year's Eve baby: you can't get reservations anywhere and actually why would you want to even go out? It's just nuts out, usually. His family used to celebrate his nameday instead-- but his middle name, which is somewhere in the middle of the summer. I've been considering throwing a party then, but then, I've been considering throwing a party for the entire time we've had this house and really, haven't yet done so. So...
I'm so far behind on blogging the holidays that I'll have to catch up some other time entirely. Photos are still on the camera.

In other news, I'm really considering a subtle but important lifestyle change. Due to the slow season coming up, Management is re-bidding our shifts, and it looks like a lot of people who've been almost full-time will have to cut back to being very part-time.
I am considering taking a part-time shift. I could then get health insurance through a state program-- not for free, but for almost-affordable. And then, working only about 12-18 hours a week, i could devote a lot more time to either writing or doing an internship of some sort at Z's magazine-- something to put on my C.V. or resume that isn't waitressing.
I also might be able to clean my house for the first time in, eh, about a year. It is at the point right now where I can't find anything and there is nothing clean. I'm even slightly behind on the laundry, although not critically. It's the only thing that isn't approaching disaster.
We have some savings-- between our two personal accounts and the joint bill-paying account, we're pretty well stocked. There are no outstanding large bills, except the car and student loans. And rent remains cheap, apparently, despite the owner of our house having died on the 29th. (I think it just reverts to Z's mom now.)

Additionally, they'll be re-re-bidding the shifts again sometime between April and June, which means that if I should feel terribly poor, or should discover that I somehow can't swing health insurance, I can bid on a full-time schedule and voila! I'll be back to where I am now. I don't lose seniority or precedence at all.

I was undecided about this, but I am so very tired of being tired all the time that I can't even stand the thought, now, of keeping up full-time. So I don't think I'll post a poll about it after all.
If you don't have an account you can create one now.
