Nobody but me is updating today, it seems. I am apparently a loser.

The house is Good Enough clean-- these are dave's high school buddies, after all.
The potato salad is made, with the new experimental recipe courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] lenine. The turkey is defrosted, the floor is swept, the living room is vacuumed. It is cold outside, and cloudy. But the porch windows are closed and it is Warm Enough out there. I'm determined we're going to hang out out there, at least some of the time. why?
We don't own enough chairs to sit inside.

We need a goddamn love seat for the living room. As it is, four or maybe five can sit in there. That's not enough.
Eh well. There'll be beer.

So, off to eat something for lunch, and then cut up more fruits. Yay.

I am not updating because I am still asleep.

*poke* how 'bout now?

Good morningish! It is a lovely day to sleep through the iffy-weathered morning, I agree.

Apparently you were commenting in your sleep, by the way. :)

It takes me about two hours to wake up after getting out of bed. I spend those hours in a zombie-like haze.

Woo! I'm mentioned in someone's LJ! I am beside myself!

Oh - now I'm filled with anxiety. What if the potato salad doesn't live up to it's reputation? Will your guests be overcome with the seductive power of a pound of bacon fat? Or will they say "This potato salad is full of bacon fat" and push their plates away?

I hope your day was fab. My husband got his 2nd degree three years ago. It was such a relief to know that we wouldn't have to deal with that lifestyle anymore. Then, though, comes the "what now?"

Hon, we're Buffalonians. We never turn down bacon fat.
Although one guest had never actually had german potato salad before, she saw the bacon and said, "Looks good to me!"

The recipe met wih a great deal of approval on all sides. I rather like the sugariness, but I think if I made it again I would perhaps cut it down a little bit, as it's more than I'm accustomed to. I do think, upon reflection, that the sugar is indeed customary in german potato salad and I'd just always thought the vinegar was sweet. :)

The "what now" is, at the moment, a day Totally Off tomorrow, as I don't have to work, and Dave doesn't have to report for jury duty (he has to call in all week but just discovered that they don't need him tomorrow). So it's officially a Holiday, and we're both going to sleep in. :)

The "what now" is definitely a question that I have been finding scary to contemplate, but I do think Dave and I are on if not the same page then at least neighboring pages, and so right at this moment (stuffed as I am with turkey and excellent potato salad) it is more exciting than scary.

:)

Oh, I'll probably forget to answer your email: please, by all means, do friend me. i think I already friended you. :)
