OK, so Dave and I have been Netflix subscribers for like 2 years now, and in that time we've totally not been getting our money's worth because we really truly just don't watch that many movies. When we signed up we made a list of like 200 movies we so totally wanted to see and had never gotten around to, but then, we didn't put them in the queue because we learned very early on that mood is important in video selection. We got Pulp Fiction and it took us like 4 months to watch it because we were never in the mood for it. When we finally saw it, we were like, yeah, that was ok, but we'd held onto it so long...
So I just sent back Collateral, which someone recommended and Dave rented and I have been trying to bring myself to watch for three or four months and I just can't. I'm. Just. Not. Interested. No. And Dave's not going to watch it without me, and he's not going to watch it with me either because he's not really that interested either.
So I'm trying to think of what the hell I should rent instead.
I'm considering the awful recent remake of King Arthur because of the hawtness and the slash. (Someone recently posted a whole breakdown of the slashiness of the movie and its greatness, and I thought, I oughtta see that.) Now, I love the legends and the time period, and am likely to have a rant of semi-coherent rage about it, but at least I'll watch it. Unlike Collateral.
So what else should I rent? I don't know. I'm seriously considering just cancelling Netflix instead and having no contact with pop culture whatsoever. Because really. I don't watch movies. And Dave doesn't watch movies either, apparently.
And, to complicate things, I love movies like 13th Warrior and The Two Towers that give me hawt men dying in the rain and also historical/literary inaccuracies to rant at. Dave hates my rants, hates fantasy, hates medievalism, and his favorite movie is probably Planes, Trains, and Automobiles. Which I admit was funny, but for the most part, I just loathe the elaborately-constructed Comedie of Errors type-crap that most Hollywood comedies consist of. ("I am an Ordinary Guy, played by a standup comedian. Now, watch as I do something dumb. Hilarity ensues!" Sure, maybe, and I laugh, but at the end it's kind of a waste of time. Especially if there's a moral message at the finale. Guh!) Dave doesn't understand that I enjoy my rants about historical/literary inaccuracies; they're a good workout. However. There are other kinds of rage. Four Weddings and a Funeral, for example, drove me into blind fury because it wasted my life and annoyed me severely.
That's not a good kind of rage. That's just annoying. That's bad. Does anyone else see a difference?
