Last night and this morning I have been coughing so hard it hurts my head and hurts my neck. ugh, oowwww.
chest is itchy/tickly inside and hates me.
when I woke up this morning I felt like somebody had beaten me.


Ooheeh, I ought to put in a cut. This got long.

There was an update notification from Anglachel's Hands of the King, which cheered me somewhat, and it's a chapter where something actually happens, so I devoured it, and now I'm rather a bit more awake and the pain has eased a little, but the chest is still tickly and I want to lie down and die.
Ohh robitussin...
This has been a sampler cold. I've had a little bit of every symptom. Starting off with a sore throat so bad I actually used medicine for it, moving on to sinus congestion so bad I actually used medicine for it, and now I'm going to break down and medicate the cough which has been bad a while but now is actually actively awful. (Hurgh, chartreuse again.)
So, I need to go find the time card of that girl I'm mad at, and lick it all over.
Just kidding.

I really am psyched that they're punishing her by giving her a night in the Club. I am totally psyched. She has a reputation as a bit of a manager's pet, because she's very young and very attractive, rather ditzy, has worked for the company for years (she was a cashier when she was a teenager and moved up to be a bartender because there's more money to be made-- even though she's not really smart enough to be a bartender. She it was who famously had to call a supervisor to ask them "which wines are the white ones?") She's also famous for having given the managers a Christmas card featuring herself posed in lingerie.

But me, I come in whenever they call me, I don't screw up, I do my job, and I work any damn hours they tell me to. And I've exercised some considerable problem-solving skills in the Club, and also have demonstrated a better attitude than any of my predecessors.
So.
I do this because I am the sort of person who derives satisfaction from doing a job well and because I don't really know what else to do, but I like to think the managers have noticed.
It's the little things that keep us sane.

I'm not calling sick tonight either, because I know a) there isn't anybody else to work the Club, b) it won't be busy (it is never busy on a Sunday), c) I don't have to be any good, I just have to be there to push the "diet coke" button on the beverage gun, d) I don't want to jeopardize my status as The Good And Reliable One. Obviously they're still tinkering with the schedule. I want to stay in the good books. They've already moved me from the Make No Money closing-Saturday shift to the At Least You Get 8 Hours in mid-day cocktailing shift on Saturday-- that seems to be permanent. So I'm pretty excited. Maybe they want to give me enough hours that now that things have settled down I still won't need a second job.
(I can't remember how i managed to have a second job. Oh yes, by squeezing it into a free evening on a work day. Bleah. How did I manage that? I don't know.)

Anyway. It was exciting yesterday to dump out my stuffed-full tip jar and count out what wound up being a 50-pack of singles. That's a whole lot of cheap Canadians. At least they were polite. I can think of worse days.

have you tried lots and lots of zinc for your cold?
i took zinc when i was coming down with a cold a couple of weeks ago and even though i still felt completely exhausted, i didn't come down with any real symptoms and i barely had the sniffles.

I do take a multivitamin that includes zinc.
I am reluctant to try more: see, zinc is one of several things that can cause the Pill to be ineffective. So, er, no.
But it'd be nice not to have so many goddamn colds. :/
