I am a bedraggled ball of yeuch this morning. I just made that word up.
My hair is all tangles. I have no idea how this happened. My chest is kinda tickly inside, which is unpleasant. (Yesterday at work I discovered that opening the dishwasher and hanging over it felt like those vaporizer treatments they used to give me when I was a kid with asthma. I spent a ridiculous amount of time with my face in the dishwasher while taking care of the dishes, and consequently came out of the back room a number of times to wait on patrons with my glasses all fogged, which amused them immensely. I hammed it up a bit. Obviously I was not that sick.)

I woke at the ungodly hour of seven (ungodly given that I didn't finally roll over and go to sleep until midnight), but lying in bed for 45 minutes mentally choreographing what promises to be an entertaining smut scene made me feel rather a lot better. (However, God only knows when I'll have the time to actually *write* it. But rest assured, it's choreographed. Yes that is how I operate, and no I didn't act it out. My hair was already tangled.)

In other news, I somehow lost track of the balance of the HSBC bank account where I deposit my cash tips, and so had Dave swing by an ATM on his way to spend money someplace so we could find out. Since that's the bank he's switched all the bills he used to pay to, and many of them auto-debit. (What, write everything down in the checkbook? You overestimate my abilities.) He brought back a receipt with easily twice the balance I'd expected. Sweet!
Oh yeah, I recalled: I'd put in $300 last time instead of my usual $150 because I had that one busy week.

I then went to check the balance of my other account, which I can do online. (In fact that's the only way I can do it. They're a mail-and-Internet-only bank. Hence the need for a second one for cash, as you can't send cash through the Internet.) I saw the number and got mad at Dave. I was about to go smack him on the head for forgetting again to give his mom the rent check when I realized wait, a) we'd just seen her and she hadn't said anything, and b) there's a debit here for the amount of rent dated 3/8.
Holy crap.
I do have money.

Over dinner, Dave said to his mom, "You said you'd help me out when I went back to school. Is it all right if I borrow money from you for gas? I have to go 4 times a week and that means $30 in gas a week."
"Put it on the credit card!" Dave's mom said. "No problem at all! I was expecting you were going to have to borrow $800 to register your car, so I feel like I've come out ahead!"
Big sigh of relief for me; handing over $20 every 2 days was starting to get me feelin'... kinda blue.

Which brings up another point. Reregistering Dave's car. (He's only two years overdue to switch to NY plates.)
He's been working on this for months, and has spoken several times to the Information people at the DMV. Each time they informed him, looking at how he'd filled out the paperwork, that he would have to pay NY State sales tax on the car he purchased in New Jersey while he was living in New Jersey. Which struck him as absolute bullshit. And also, at this point, unfeasible; the difference is something like 4%, and that's a lot of money when you're talking about a $22,000 car. (Yes, he had money then. Why do you ask?)
So he went to the DMV yesterday braced for the worst, and the Information booth chickie took a look at the forms. "You've filled out this question wrong," she said.
"I have?" He looked at it.
"If you answer 'Yes' you have to pay sales tax." She scribbled out the 'yes'. "You should answer 'No'."

Turns out she was right-- "No" was actually the true answer. It was misleadingly-worded. Were you absent from NY state for education, the military, or employment?
Well, yes: he was in New Jersey for a job.
But no-- that's not the answer. he wasn't sent to New Jersey by his employer, he moved to New Jersey because there was an employer there. Which is a crucial difference, and saves him $800.

But the way the information chickie corrected him was pretty funny.
So, after that it was a matter of like $40 and now the car's got NY plates.
Sad: the Smog-Yellow NJ ones looked cuter on the green car.

So yes, i'm feeling OK about money for the first time in like, yeah. A while. (Not great, mind you. But I think I actually can afford to pay a student loan. *thinks about it* *gets discouraged* and the gas bill? and the electric bill? Nope, in the red again. But it was a nice two seconds while it lasted.)
