dragonlady7: self-portrait but it's mostly the DSLR in my hands in the mirror (linedragon)

My computer is currently hiding under the bed in the bedroom where I'm staying. I can't plug it in there because the outlets aren't grounded. No kidding. So I'm updating this from Dave's laptop, and I can't figure out the URL to update my MT blog. So, this is a rare Livejournal exclusive, for now.

We have an armed standoff in progress down the street. Two blocks down from Dave's mom's house, a retired priest snapped and went out in his yard with a rifle, threatening to shoot any utility workers that came near his house.
So he's been holed up in the house for a couple hours now (like four or five) and there's a cop car directly outside the window of the bedroom where I sleep, blocking off the street.
It's not a busy street. It's one block off a busy street, and is entirely residential. Dave's mom's house sits at the top of a T intersection, and so is a logical place to stop traffic.

We hung out with the News 4 reporter and cameraman for a little while, while it was pouring and the SWAT team was setting up.

I guess they're still trying to talk the guy in. They got the diocese involved, they got a shrink, they got his personal attorney, they got everyone they can think of over there.
News 4 already broadcast a short piece which is how I know the details. We watched them broadcast it. It was that reporter guy named Mylous; I forget his last name but you know, the first name is enough.

Now News 2 and News 7 are both set up in Mrs. K's front yard or across the street, and their reporters are making nice with the locals. Sure enough, the next-door neighbor Bobby (who is harmless) has no shirt on and is standing on his porch talking to them-- just a great advertisement for the neighborhood right there.

It's kind of boring. They're filming the house right now and I'm trying to look unobtrusive in the window. Bert the beagle is going to stand in the door and bark a while, most likely. Man... I oughta set up a lemonade stand.

I feel bad for the poor old dude. He's probably cracked, poor soul. I hope they can talk him into giving up the gun, and then give him some nice meds. I imagine he must be pretty old.

It's too bad Mrs. K's out at a meeting; she'd probably know the guy and would be really interested in all the proceedings. She'll be sorry to have missed out on all the doings... And she'll be sorry to have missed out on lunch, because Dave's out back grilling some Spar's sausages. (I'm having a fresh Polish sausage. Yummy!)

I'll let y'all know whether the guy cracks or not. :) Poor old fella. Hope he turns out OK.
