It was really the same feeling as watching the first ~15 minutes of The Last Jedi and going, “… did they hire B to write this?” before it all went downhill.
OMGGGG i’m just glad there wasn’t a moment like when in my thing I’d had Poe be like “and everyone thinks I’m a spice runner because racism!” and everyone in the story being horrified and then
they made him a spice runner in TLJ
i don’t think i will ever recover from that.
like, i’m not good at not being racist, I am a fumbling buffoon raised absolutely steeping in this racist society and I just do my best where I can, right, and even I was like “oh man it’d be really fucked up if–”
and then they did that, a multibillion-dollar company with presumable access to any sensitivity readers they could ever want
I have officially seen all of S2 of the Witcher, and while about 25% of it is bafflingly irritating to me (WHYY) and a further like 20% is just confusing to me (elf piss anon???) and an additional 5% of it is like actively wildly upsetting (SCREECH and yeah no they don’t really get a free pass on racism either BOy hoWDY), probably the full remaining 50% was delightful, so Witcher has officially passed the tests that MCU and Star Wars failed, and I get to not only stick around but actually be able to enjoy the new fandom content.
I was just going through my blog from two years ago when I first got into this fandom and I still feel good about it in the same ways, so.
I have avoided discussing spoilers so far on this blog, for selfish reasons, because I hadn’t seen the whole thing, but I finally did last week so I will probably start talking about things soon and forgetting to tag. Please care for yourselves and all, I know it’s crazy how fast people start posting spoilers but I’m just not a person who cares about spoilers and I just don’t have the space in my head to hold for that for much longer. So. Soon I’ll maybe talk about the things I loved and hated specifically in this season and I’ll probably just have the regular “the witcher” tag on it– but I also feel like if you’re a person who cares about spoilers and wants to watch this thing you probably have done so. I watched S1 & S2 over 8 days, 2 episodes a day, with a friend elsewhere on a WhatsApp chat so we could share profound reactions such as
Anyway, Meet Death Sitting is a large part of why I decided my betweendays TV project was going to be The Witcher rather than any of the many other things I've been meaning to watch for the past two years, and it continues to provide great comfort and solace. Thank you.
