Do you have any tips for starting to write again after having been blocked for over a year?

I've definitely taken year-long breaks before. Hmm.... I think you just have to do it. It helps if it's something you're extremely excited about, so you can kind of coast on the earnestness and not give yourself time to notice the awkwardness and clunkiness.

Thanks! My main problem is that I seem to have taken a bit of a revulsion from stories in general. I can't think of anything that excites me enough to even want to write it. OTOH, it's spring now, so maybe something will shift soon. (I feel very like those blokes in The Terror - frozen in place with a monster outside trying to kill me.)

Try writing a nonfiction book, then. I sometimes amuse myself writing instruction manuals or tutorials or something like that, where there's no story. I have even written fake instruction manuals for technologies that don't exist... it's not a story! and then my brain inexorably fills in a story around it, LOL.
IDK that it'd work for you but I've tricked myself in various ways before.
I've also written like, essays and meta-commentary and that sort of thing, to get me going on writing.

Thank you! I rather like the idea of fake instructions for technologies that don't exist. That's a lot of fun :) I'm actually ghostwriting a book for someone else atm, so I suppose there is some creativity going on. Maybe I shouldn't expect myself to be doing my own stuff at the same time. But yeah, doing some meta sounds like fun too. I hope having a journal again will actually help, because it encourages you to actually write something instead of just reblogging. Fingers crossed :)
