Yeah okay but Murderbot literally stores ART’s comm in its heart. Like.
ART’s comm is stored under its ribs. And ART’s last actions before it got
basically fucking killed were to, to hide itself in such a way that only
Murderbot could find it. It knew Murderbot would save it. Murderbot, who
“does not care” and doesn’t like emotions, had an emotional breakdown and
went on a rampage when it thought ART was dead. It trusted ART to clear it
of the alien malware. ART kept it company in the decontamination/isolation
box. ART threated to bomb an entire planet to save Murderbot. ART would
have done it, it was ART’s first plan. This massive AI bot pilot.
Hyperintelligent. Everything at its metaphorical fingerprints. Its friend
was held hostage and it made itself missiles and threatened to bomb a
planet to get it back. Murderbot keeps a lifeline to ART in its heart.

Your honour, they are ride-or-dies. They are best friends. They are
soulmates. Murderbot keeps ART in its heart. I’m screaming.

:

actually ART’s students having a shrine for it somewhere in the ship is so
funny, as a concept. like. they’re not aware that ART is anything but a
slightly smarter bot-pilot and so when things like their favorite beverage
already being made in the mess, just for them, to suddenly finding the
exact kind of education module they need to study, to finding a small
secret place that’s perfect for studying happen, most of them ascribe it to
glitches and coincidence and luck.

of course some tired, stressed student who’s just gotten a little happiness
boost from a nice warm beverage is gonna leave a little trinket in one of
the nooks and crannies of the ship, it’s only polite. of course someone who
lived through a failed raider attack is gonna do the same. soon enough
everyone knows about the good-luck shrine, and whenever something goes
right, or you need something to go right, you leave a little gift.
doesn’t have to be much – oragami animals and string bracelets and memory
clips full of media – but it’s something. no one ever sees any one of these
gifts leave the shrine but many of them do go missing, and everyone agrees
that the ship (or whatever the source of good luck is) is taking them. if
someone sees a string bracelet they made for their ship tied tightly around
a railing somewhere in the ship, then, well… that’s just a sign of an
accepted gift.

Murderbot is genderless which is also interesting to read from a first-person perspective.

These books are amazing, I’d recommend grabbing all 4 in the series and reading them over a few days.
