Okay, so, you know that speech in Braveheart where Mel Gibson is all ‘they may take our lives, but they’ll never take our FREEDOM!’
And then in Julius Caesar, Mark Antony is all ‘Friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your ears …’
Can you think of any other famous speeches that are similar in tone to either of these?
I have a couple in mind, but it’s always good to get input from others :)
Alec Baldwin in Glengarry Glen Ross (more negative connotation, but an excellent modern spin on capitalistic motivation, aka every sales meeting i’ve ever been in)
Robin Williams in Good Will Hunting (lowkey but a classic)
Valerie’s letter in V for Vendetta (the only one i could think of by a woman)
Tom Hiddleston in Henry V (not a film, but a great monologue performed on the spot by hiddles)
Roy Batty’s monologue in Blade Runner (not necessarily similar in tone but i wanted to get some sf representation on this list haha)
That video:
My roller derby team watched that to kick off the first season we were undefeated. That video has SERIOUS MOJO.
we were undefeated 4 years, and of all things, what we retained from that video was that sometimes on the bench while the first line up took the track, in the tense silence before the first whistle, the second line would start the Mighty Ducks QUACK chant for no goddamn reason.
None of our fans ever picked it up, it was just us, but we’d do it in the locker room too. For no reason.
