Now this better not be all my good luck for the whole week!!!! This is First Chicken Processing Of The Season week, I need more good luck than that!
I’ll hope it’s the beginning of being on a roll, rather than my whole allotment of Things Working Out.
In signs pointing toward it being the former, I just spent two hours washing eggs to make it easier to clean the dual purpose egg washing / evisceration room (we should just call it the Chicken Poop Room but then that’s kind of a descriptor for most of this farm, which is good given that it’s our main source of fertilizer, except the parts of the farm that are full of pig poop additionally or instead) and that went smoothly and I went and looked in the ice machine and it’s full!!! which means not broken!!! which is a damn sight better than some Disaster Slaughters we’ve had.
Nothing worse than peering into that ice machine and finding an echoing chamber full of drips and gurgles and no ice.
(Not like we can’t go buy ice at Stewart’s but it’s like $100. In fabulous coincidence, one of the farm’s vegetable share members is a former air conditioner and ice machine repairman, who works for vegetables and beer and is delighted to be of use. That ice machine shouldn’t work but boy, does it. Sometimes.)
