So, for the curious, when a sponge factory about four miles away catches fire in the middle of the night, it does smell strongly enough to wake up your whole household, at least one of whom will be convinced that it is something on fire inside your own house.
(For the record, it was not me who thought this. I was pretty sure whatever was burning wasn’t anything we owned.)
Who knew O-Cell-O and Scotchbrite sponges were a local product?? Emphasis, however, on “were”. Yikes.
I had no idea 3M had a factory over in Tonawanda. I wonder what else is made over there. I just sort of assumed everything’s made overseas now, but it turns out, more stuff is still happening over in that weird industrial area over by the river than you’d think.
One of these days I’m going to remember to get a picture of the sign for the Acme Nipple Mfg Co that’s on Elmwood. Because that’s a real thing. I love you, Buffalo.
